Is Claude Fable 5 free? What the Claude Free, Pro and Max plans include, whether a free Fable 5 API key exists, and how to test it with free sign-up credit.
Read as MarkdownNo. Claude Fable 5 is not free on Claude.ai, and there is no free Claude Fable 5 API. Anthropic keeps both Fable models off its Free plan, and every API call is billed per token. The closest thing to free is trial credit: a new SeedRouter account starts with a small free balance (the amount is on the pricing page), enough to send a few real requests to Claude Fable 5, Claude Fable 5.1 or Claude Opus 5.5 before you pay anything.
Is Claude Fable 5 free on Claude.ai?
Not on the Free plan. Anthropic's help article on Fable models says "Fable 5 isn't available on the Free plan," and Claude Fable 5.1 works the same way. On paid plans:

Anthropic ran a promotion that let subscribers spend part of their weekly limit on Claude Fable 5 at no extra cost. It ended on July 19, 2026, and never covered Claude Fable 5.1.
Claude subscriptions do not include API access either. The subscription pays for the Claude apps; code that calls the model pays per token.
Is there a free Claude Fable 5 API key?
Not a legitimate one. Anthropic does not hand out free API keys, and "free unlimited" keys shared online are usually someone else's leaked key or a proxy you know nothing about. Either way your prompts, code and documents pass through a stranger's account, and the key can stop working at any moment.
The safe version of "free" is a small credit on an account you own. On SeedRouter:

Each table ends with the cost of an example request of 2,000 input and 1,000 output tokens, so dividing your free balance by that figure gives a rough count of short requests. Claude Opus 5.5 stretches the credit furthest because it has the lowest rates. Lower effort stretches it further still, because thinking is billed as output.
Can I try Claude Fable 5 without writing code?

Is Claude Opus 5.5 free on the API?
No. Anthropic bills its API per token, and on SeedRouter the only free part is the sign-up credit. Claude Opus 5.5 is the cheapest of the three per token, so it is the best one to try on free credit. The pricing guide compares all three.
Does the free credit expire?
No. SeedRouter balances do not expire, whether they come from the sign-up credit or a top-up.
What happens when the credit runs out?
Requests stop being accepted until you top up on the billing page. There is no subscription and no automatic charge unless you turn on automatic recharge yourself.
