What is Veo 3.1?

Veo 3.1 is Google DeepMind's video generation model. On SeedRouter, Veo 3.1 turns a text prompt, or a few images, into a short clip in 16:9 or 9:16 at 720p, 1080p or 4k.

Veo 3.1 comes as five model IDs. Three are priced per clip and return 8 seconds: fast for iterations, quality for final renders, lite for cheap batches. Two are priced per second and add lengths, an audio switch, a seed and first and last frames.

Each Veo 3.1 request returns a task ID; poll it and download the clip from SeedRouter's own storage.

Two ways to use Veo 3.1

Call the API from your backend, or hand the job to a coding agent.

Backend

Call the API

Best for apps, pipelines and batch work

Send the Veo 3.1 request from your server, keep the task ID, and read the finished clip from the task.

  1. 1Create an API key
  2. 2POST the request with your prompt
  3. 3Poll the task until the video is ready
Agent

Let an agent do it

Best for one-off clips and prototypes

Copy a ready prompt into Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. It shows the body and estimated cost, waits for your approval, then polls the task without resubmitting.

  1. 1Copy the prompt
  2. 2Paste it into your agent and describe the shot
  3. 3Approve the body and cost, then get the video

What Veo 3.1 is good at

Veo 3.1 works best on single shots you can describe in a few lines.

Start and end where you choose

Give Veo 3.1 a first frame, and optionally a last, and it animates between them.

Keep a subject recognisable

On veo-3.1-fast, up to 3 reference images keep a product or character consistent.

Wide or vertical

Veo 3.1 renders 16:9 for YouTube and 9:16 for Reels and TikTok, no cropping after.

Up to 4k

Draft in Veo 3.1 at 720p, then render the keeper at 1080p or 4k.

Sound when you want it

Turn on generate_audio on a per-second model and Veo 3.1 adds an audio track.

Finer control

The per-second Veo 3.1 models add a negative prompt, a seed and lengths of 4, 6 or 8 seconds.

Veo 3.1 FAQ

What is Veo 3.1?+

Veo 3.1 is Google DeepMind's video generation model. On SeedRouter it makes one clip per request, 16:9 or 9:16, at 720p, 1080p or 4k, from a prompt or up to 3 images.

How much does Veo 3.1 cost?+

An 8-second Veo 3.1 clip on the per-clip models starts at $0.084; 720p and 1080p cost the same and 4k costs more. The per-second models start at $0.0736 per second, and audio raises that rate. The table above shows every rate.

Is Veo 3.1 free?+

No. Veo 3.1 is paid per clip or per second, and new accounts get a small credit to try it. No subscription: top up any amount, credits never expire, and failed requests are free.

Does Veo 3.1 generate audio?+

Yes. Per-clip Veo 3.1 MP4s came back with sound in our tests, and there is no switch to turn it off. On the per-second models, veo-3.1-fast-official and veo-3.1-quality-official, sound is off unless you set generate_audio to true, which raises the per-second rate.

What is the difference between Veo 3.1 Fast, Quality and Lite?+

veo-3.1-fast is for quick iterations and takes frame or reference images. veo-3.1-quality is for final renders, frame mode only. veo-3.1-lite costs least per clip and works from text alone.

Can Veo 3.1 turn an image into a video?+

Yes. Send up to 3 image URLs to veo-3.1-fast or veo-3.1-quality: two set the first and last frame, three act as references on fast. The per-second models use first_frame_image and last_frame_image.

How long are Veo 3.1 videos?+

Per-clip Veo 3.1 models always return 8 seconds. The per-second models take a duration of 4, 6 or 8 seconds, with 8 as the default.

Can Veo 3.1 make videos longer than 8 seconds?+

Not in one request. Per-clip Veo 3.1 models always return 8 seconds, and the per-second models take 4, 6 or 8 seconds. Extending an existing clip is not offered on SeedRouter, so for a longer piece, generate several clips and edit them together.

Does Veo 3.1 add a watermark?+

The Veo 3.1 clips from our test runs had no visible watermark or logo on the picture. Google states that videos made by Veo carry SynthID, an invisible watermark.

How do I get a Veo 3.1 API key?+

Create a SeedRouter account, add credit, and create a key in the dashboard. Send it as a Bearer token with each Veo 3.1 request; one key works for every model.

Try Veo 3.1 in the Playground, then move the same request into your code.
