## How much does Grok Imagine Video 1.5 cost per second?
xAI bills `grok-imagine-video-1.5` per second of output, by resolution. The developer docs list the rates per model, with one price per resolution:\[1]

480p is the API's default resolution. 1080p is rendered natively for text to video and image to video; reference-to-video stops at 720p.\[3]
## What does a 6, 8, 10 or 15 second clip cost?
Multiply the per-second price by the length. xAI accepts any length from 1 to 15 seconds:\[2]

Add $0.01 when the clip starts from an image. A minute of finished 480p video, made from four 15-second clips, is $4.80 of output; the same minute is $8.40 at 720p and $15.00 at 1080p. Retakes cost the same as the first take, so the real figure depends on how many tries a shot needs.
## Does audio or image to video cost extra?
Audio does not. Grok Imagine Video 1.5 generates sound with every clip, including lip-synced speech, and the per-second rate already covers it.\[2] Image to video costs the same per second as text to video, plus the $0.01 input image fee on xAI's API.\[1] On a 6-second 480p clip that fee is about 2% of the price.
## Why does 1080p cost three times as much as 480p?
Because xAI prices the resolutions that way: $0.25 per second at 1080p against $0.08 at 480p, a factor of 3.1.\[1] 720p sits at 1.75 times the 480p price. Higher resolutions also take longer to render, which xAI lists as one of the main factors in generation time.\[3]
## What is the cheapest way to use Grok Imagine Video 1.5?
Draft at 480p and render only the take you keep at a higher resolution. At list price, ten 8-second drafts at 480p cost $6.40; the same ten drafts at 720p cost $11.20, and at 1080p $20.00. Keep clips as short as the shot allows, since the price grows second by second, and write the sounds you want into the prompt instead of adding audio later.
