# AI Character Reference Sheet Prompts for Views and Expressions

By SeedRouter · Published 2026-10-12 · Updated 2026-10-12

An **AI character reference sheet prompt** should name one character, specify the views you need, and repeat the details that must stay fixed. Start with a small turnaround sheet; make expressions separately so faces have enough room. The templates below cover both, plus repairs for a changed face, missing accessory, or invented costume detail.

Use them in the [AI Character Reference Sheet Generator](https://seedrouter.ai/tools/ai-character-reference-sheet-generator), which uses [GPT Image 2.5](https://seedrouter.ai/models/gpt-image-2-5). These are suggested prompts, not tested output examples. Inspect every result before treating it as a reference for another image or video.

This sample was generated using the tool's **Four full-body views** preset with no reference image: GPT Image 2.5 Flare Standard, 1536 × 1024, high quality, PNG, one output. It depicts an original explorer, separate from the Mara prompt templates below. All four views are present and the head and feet are visible; inspect the face, jacket details and boots before using a sheet in further work. One result does not guarantee identical results from later generations.

## Choose a master character before building the sheet

Use one approved image as the identity reference, preferably with a clear face and visible clothing. If you only have a description, establish a single character image first and review it before requesting several angles.

Write a short list of fixed traits: face shape, hairstyle, build, garment colors, footwear, and distinctive accessories. Separate confirmed details from anything the input does not show. A front-facing portrait cannot establish the back of a jacket; you must specify that design or accept an interpretation.

The examples use **Mara**, a fictional courier: short black bob, brown eyes, tan skin, a rust jacket with a cream collar, charcoal trousers, and brown boots. Replace these details with your own character. Use references you have permission to use.

## AI character reference sheet prompt for four views

Attach your master image and paste this character reference sheet template. If you work from text alone, replace the first sentence with your approved description.

```text
Use reference image 1 as the identity and outfit reference for Mara.
Create ONE character turnaround sheet on a plain light-gray background.
Four evenly spaced full-body panels, left to right:
front view, three-quarter view, side profile, back view.
Show the same character at the same scale with feet on one baseline.
Neutral standing pose, arms slightly away from the torso; no action pose.
Preserve facial structure, short black bob, brown eyes, tan skin,
body proportions, rust jacket with cream collar, charcoal trousers,
and brown boots. No alternate outfits or extra accessories.
The back of the jacket is plain rust fabric, with no logo or hood.
Use even lighting and the same illustration style in every panel.
Keep heads and feet inside each panel with clear space between figures.
No scenery, props, labels, captions, decorative borders, or watermark.
```

One sheet is one output image: four requested panels do not mean four independently downloadable files. Keep the output count at one when you want a single board. Changing that count requests more images; it does not split the panels.

For an anime character sheet, specify linework, shading, and proportions. If adding a style reference, explain which input controls identity and which controls style.

## Make an expression sheet with a separate prompt

A full-body turnaround is useful for silhouette and clothing. It leaves less space for facial detail, so request a separate expression sheet when you need readable faces.

```text
Use reference image 1 as Mara's approved identity reference.
Create ONE expression sheet with six head-and-shoulders panels:
neutral, slight smile, concern, surprise, frustration, and relief.
Keep the camera front-facing, framing, lighting, and head size fixed.
Preserve her facial structure, eye color, skin tone, short black bob,
and the visible rust jacket with cream collar.
Change only the expression; keep the character recognizable.
Use a plain light-gray background and clear gaps between panels.
No added accessories, dialogue, captions, labels, or watermark.
```

If “frustration” changes the character's face too much, ask for a subtler expression in a separate edit. Use the approved master again rather than promoting the changed face to your new reference.

**Generated expression example.** The explorer's four-view sheet above was the only input image for the tool's six-expression preset. GPT Image 2.5 Flare Standard returned this 1536 × 1024 PNG at high quality in one generation. The six portraits show neutral, happy, sad, angry, surprised and concerned expressions. This tests the explorer preset, not the Mara template above.

## Inspect each panel before reusing it

Zoom into the downloaded image. Check for a changed profile, mismatched boots, or a different jacket in the back view.

| Check       | What to compare                                                 |
| ----------- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Identity | Jaw, nose, eye spacing, hairline, skin tone |
| Outfit | Collar, closures, sleeve length, colors, footwear |
| Proportions | Head size, shoulder width, height, limb length |
| Accessories | Shape, placement, and the character's left or right side |
| View | A true side or back view rather than another three-quarter pose |
| Usability | Complete hands and feet, clear spacing, readable facial detail |

For **character reference sheet size**, start with the tool's supported dimensions and judge the actual panel detail. A larger canvas does not automatically fix identity drift. If a face becomes too small after cropping, request that view separately instead of packing more panels into the sheet.

Keep the board, prompt, and approved master together; mark rejected panels.

## Repair identity and clothing drift one change at a time

Supply the faulty sheet as reference image 1 and the approved master as reference image 2. Name the affected panel and the exact correction.

```text
Edit reference image 1. Reference image 2 is the approved identity.
Correct only the side-profile panel: restore Mara's nose shape,
jawline, and short black bob to match reference image 2.
Keep its side-profile angle, body pose, clothing, scale, and background.
Preserve the other three panels and their layout.
Do not redesign the character or add details.
```

For clothing drift, replace the correction with something concrete: “Restore the cream collar in the back-view panel; the jacket has no hood.” For a missing accessory, state which side belongs to the character, rather than saying “on the left” without context.

These instructions express what to preserve; they do not guarantee untouched pixels. OpenAI's [image prompting guide](https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/image-prompting) recommends separating edits from preservation constraints and warns that repeated edits can still change details. Compare the whole result after each repair. If the tool keeps altering approved panels, generate the faulty view separately; use an image editor for exact assembly.

**Generated single-view example.** We supplied the same explorer sheet to the tool's single-profile preset. The result is a separate 1024 × 1536 PNG, generated with GPT Image 2.5 Flare Standard at high quality. It preserves the overall hairstyle and outfit and shows the entire head and feet. This demonstrates regenerating one view; it does not demonstrate a mask edit or replacement of a panel in the original board.

## Prepare a reference for the next image or video

Choose the approved view closest to the intended shot. In the character sheet tool, select **Crop and use this sheet**, pick a starting view and adjust the crop around one character. Choose Hotel Lobby AI or Raindance AI and character slot 1 or 2, then sign in to save and send the crop. Review it on the video page before generating. The other character, motion and audio inputs stay unchanged; sending a reference does not generate a video. Keep the original board for later edits.

For a new scene, describe the change while repeating the identity constraints:

```text
Use the attached approved image as Mara's identity and outfit reference.
Show her standing at a rainy bus stop, waist-up, three-quarter angle.
Preserve her face, short black bob, rust jacket, and cream collar.
Change the setting and lighting; do not change her costume or identity.
```

For video, check the chosen model's reference-image mode and restrictions before submitting. A sheet does not establish voice, movement, or continuity by itself. See the [prompt guide](https://seedrouter.ai/blog/seedance-2-5-prompt-guide) ([Seedance 2.5](https://seedrouter.ai/models/seedance-2-5)) for video reference instructions and the [short-film workflow](https://seedrouter.ai/blog/claude-opus-5-5-seedance-2-5-short-film) for connecting shots.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I make a character sheet from one image?

You can request additional views from one reference, but unseen details must be interpreted. Specify the back of clothing, hidden accessories, and other important details before generating.

### Is the AI character reference sheet generator free?

Generation uses paid credits. Check the tool's current estimate and [pricing](https://seedrouter.ai/pricing) before submitting; do not assume unlimited free generations. Repair requests are additional generations.

### Does a sheet guarantee character consistency?

No. It provides visual reference material, but each result still needs inspection. Keep an approved master and repeat the traits that must remain fixed.

Use the AI character reference sheet prompt as a starting brief: approve one character, check every view, and repair specific faults before carrying the reference into your next scene.
